When you think Salt Lake City, it’s hard not to think of “snow”, and Utah is home to some of the best snow on earth. There was a reason the Winter Olympics were held here! More and more it looks like it’s going to be one of the coldest winters on record, and that means great snow for all you skiers and snowboarders. If you want to play in Utah, you’ll have plenty of options at your fingertips.

To those that are uninitiated, the best part about Salt Lake City is you’ll find at least half a dozen ski resorts within a half hour drive of downtown! Brighton Ski Resort, located in Big Cottonwood Canyon, is located a mere 20 minutes from downtown. Visitors remark that Brighton is one of the cheaper ski resorts in the area, while still delivering excellent terrain and challenging runs. The only complaint is that you’ll often have to change lifts in order to get to your final destination, but the low price makes up for it.

If you’re looking for the best ski resort in Salt Lake City, it’s arguable that Park City Mountain Resort claims that crown. This resort has the best runs, a great terrain park, and fantastic night life to boot. Truly something for everyone. Of course, popularity comes with a price – if you’re visiting during a peak time (like Christmas), lines are exceptionally long. Try to come here during non-peak times, you won’t regret it.

For skiers, sometimes you remember the good old days when skis ruled the slopes and snowboards didn’t exist. Of course, now everything is changed and the situation is usually reversed. If you miss the old days, check out Alta ski resort. This resort is for skiers only, and rewards them with excellent terrain and great powder. The downside is locals crowd the place, and guests occasionally feel “stiffed” by the locals. If you love skiing and have thick skin, check out Alta.

This is just touching the surface of the Salt Lake resort scene. There are many other resorts to fit any type of personality, and it’s hard to go wrong at any of them. No matter which resort you choose, rest assured they have the most important thing: Utah’s fantastic snow.
